How Fiverr response rate works, and how to improve it

Fiverr shows buyers how quickly you reply. That number is one of the few signals a buyer has before they have ever worked with you, and it is one of the few things about your profile you can change today rather than over months.

This explains what is being measured, what actually moves it, and what does not.

What Fiverr measures

Two things get tracked and they are easy to confuse. Response rate is how many first messages from buyers you replied to at all. Response time is how long you took to reply on average.

The distinction matters because they fail differently. A low response rate means messages are going unanswered entirely — usually because you never saw them. A slow response time means you are seeing them but getting there late.

Fiverr publishes the current rules for how these are calculated and how they feed into seller levels, and those rules change. Check Fiverr's own seller help pages for the thresholds that apply to you right now rather than trusting any third-party article, including this one, for exact figures.

Why it decides orders, not just badges

Buyers rarely message one seller. They message several with the same brief and hire whoever comes back first with something useful. That behaviour is the reason speed converts: not because Fiverr rewards it, but because the buyer has already moved on by the time a late reply arrives.

So the cost of a slow reply is rarely the metric. It is the order that went to whoever was watching.

What actually improves it

  • Find out sooner. Most slow replies are not slow decisions — they are messages nobody saw for hours. This is the single biggest lever and the easiest to fix.
  • Reply with something, quickly, even when you do not have the full answer. A short acknowledgement with one clarifying question stops the clock and starts the conversation.
  • Use saved replies for the questions you get constantly, then edit them. A generic reply that arrives fast beats a perfect one that arrives tomorrow, but a reply that is obviously canned loses the order anyway.
  • Set expectations in your gig description. Fewer surprise questions means fewer messages you have to answer at all.

What does not work

Leaving a Fiverr tab open and hoping you notice it. Browser tabs are where notifications go to be missed, and the tab closes every time your machine restarts.

Relying on email alone. Fiverr sends a lot of email, and the one that matters looks like the ones that do not.

Auto-replies that say nothing. Buyers can tell, and a fast reply that fails to engage with what they asked reads worse than silence.

Common questions

Does replying faster improve my Fiverr ranking?
Fiverr uses seller performance signals, including responsiveness, as part of how sellers are evaluated and levelled. The exact weighting is not published and changes over time. The more reliable reason to reply fast is simpler: buyers message several sellers and usually hire whoever answers first with something useful.
Does response time count on weekends?
Fiverr's clock does not stop because you have stopped. If you take regular time off, look at Fiverr's own out-of-office setting, which is designed for exactly that, rather than hoping the metric forgives you.
What is the fastest way to improve response time?
Reduce the gap between a buyer messaging you and you finding out. Most slow replies are not slow decisions — they are messages that sat unseen. Getting alerts somewhere you actually look, such as your phone or a messaging app you already use, fixes more of the problem than typing faster ever will.
